Chapter 29

Carving a Rune for Fiona

The sun's golden rays filtered through the canopy, casting a warm glow over the small clearing where Allen and Fiona stood. The air smelled of the damp earth, and the melodious chirping of birds tried to ease everyone's mood, but Allen Ming was in no mood of going easy. It had been four hours since they parted ways with little Hao and the lioness, but the trail had gone cold.

Allen's brow furrowed as he scanned the dense foliage, his heart sinking with each passing moment. The path ahead seemed to lead into more uncertainty, like a tunnel with no visible exit.

"Are we making a mistake by believing those people?" Ming picked a juicy fruit from a nearby tree with his Qi Guidance Thread. If little Hao was here, she would have cleaned this place in a few minutes.

He offered one to Fiona.

"I doubt that." Fiona rested her palm on his shoulder, supporting him through her action. "Under little Hao's Truth Seeking Medicine he couldn't lie. I believe your sister headed in this direction somehow."

"Why did he only talk about my sister and not about my grandmother. That concerns me."

"We found one of them and we will find another. There has to be a reason. I believe in little Hao's alchemy."

"Her alchemy is getting good." Ming bit into a juicy fruit. It tasted like bitter apple cider juice. Not his favorite, but he needed to eat something, and he preferred natural things over the dry ration in his storage ring.

"Brother Ming, don't you think she is going overboard in some things?"

"What do you mean?" He sat on a bark while munching on the fruit. Although he boasted he could use the dark qi to channel into his shoes for all day long, apparently and he had to stop to replenish it. He could quickly regain his dark qi, but he still needed to pause and devote that time to it.

She hesitated for a moment.

"Speak up. You don't need to hide anything from me, dear."

Fiona let out a long breath.

"She didn't even flinch or ask us before giving vitality burning elixir to uncle Jaye. I find it odd. With her history with the Dark Lands…"

"Wait." Ming raised his palm. "Fiona, I love you, and let's not get into her history, please. She is like a little sister to me." He licked his lips, trying to collect his words. "We needed answers, and although I don't support her ways, it was the best possible way at that time."

"Could we not? We anyway got our answers from the Bright Moon Sect people. We could have waited."

Ming shook his head.

"Could you have predicted it, or seen the future?"

Fiona shook her head.

"We didn't know we will meet them, nor we could have predicted that, sweetheart. If we had left that place before they had arrived, we wouldn't know this information. And we might have lost little Xue completely." He retrieved Fiona's dagger. "Again, I don't support it, and it pained me
